A rare enamelled metal and paste 'Two Birds ' brooch, Trifari, USA, 1930s

About the Item

A beautifully crafted and highly sort after/collectable early piece from Trifari, an enchanting 'life in miniature', with two birds on a branch, with bird box. Cold enamelled and highlighted with pastes, it would be a great asset to any collection of costume jewellery, in particular, that of Trifari pieces, a jewel of great charm and warmth. It has the typical 'fur clip' fitting (a double pronged fitting), highly characteristic of Trifari jewels at this time. The firm of Trifari was founded in 1925 by Gustavo Trifari, Leo F. Krussman and Carl M. Fishel, specialising in paste jewellery of extremely fine quality, designs were complex , aimed a distinctively ‘real’ look. In 1930, they employed a young designer Alfred Philippe, who had been designing magnificent, stylish jewels for Van Cleef and Arpels, and Cartier. Philippe’s designs for Trifari are some of the most collectable and exquisite done for the company. They continued to produce some of the finest costume jewellery throughout the heydays of the 1940s through to 1975, as a privately run business . Trifari continued under various new owners throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the name ‘Trifari’ finally ending in the year 2000.

    Wear consistent with age and use. There is some slight wear to the enamel on the edge of the 'bird box' and the main bird's tail, but this does not distract and is commensurate with age. Please see photos for this.
